Renewable Energy – A Big Part of Climate Change Mitigation
In Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the United Nations or UN clearly supported the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in developing environmental and social development in the future through Renewable Energy or RE.
This is due to the citation of a 900-page Special Report in Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change. The report shows that RE can be of great involvement in making the climate change lesser harsh or mitigated. Such aim will be done through reducing the emission of green house gas in the energy sector. In addition, the IPCC and other international governmental sects stands firmly in agreeing that nuclear and fossil fuels are not good options to renewables. It has also been realized that although the supply of oil and gas is becoming steadily less, the world still needs to opt to clean and bolstered sources of energy to avoid firms in alternating to dirty options.
The idea is considered unique but the IPCC is not completely confident with the development potential of RE in an immediate manner, more over when it is mixed with top level energy effectiveness. On the organization’s end, its report of The Energy Report portrays that the pathway of this plan is 100% in terms of the renewable energy’s future – that is in 2050. IPCC shows a landmark commentary that gives an idea of the rapid growth, low cost possibility for RE. However, the report does not endorse a 100% RE pathway until the proposed year.
The organization also states that the WWF’s report gives that lacking piece, which is the emphatic vision with a crystal clear timeline. It was also stressed out that they (the people involved) have to act immediately in terms of energy security and efficiency. At the same time, they also have to be cautious in keeping the climate change status well and don’t let it fall on the danger threshold of 2 degree global warming.
The WWF also makes it clear that aside from the climate benefits that the plan will give, it also has various benefits for the people in the world, especially those who are in developing countries. If the plan would be pushed through, there would be health benefits, security of supply benefits, job opportunities and opportunities for technology advancement. Th latter will be much of great help on places that are not yet extended with technology benefits.
On the other hand, there had been negotiations four days before the report was launched in Abu Dhabi, thus, creating the report Summary for Policy Makers. The report won majority approval from more than 100 government representatives that day. However, the Summary for Policy Makers was considered as just an outline. An involved person said that the report, in any way, does not match the high quality of the full report. It was also advised the one should still have a full review of the report in order to understand the huge project that the IPCC has prepared.
The Summary for Policy Makers has been acknowledge and approved by various world governments. It also turned out to be the basis for coming up with energy policies, for national and regional firms and investors as well as for internationally known organizations like the World Bank.
For some people, the idea might not create such an impact while for others, it might give them another hope for the future. Whether the idea was a good one or not, what matters most is that there are organizations that are willing to make the world a better and a happier place for everybody. After all, it’s still the whole humanity that will benefit in the near future.
